One of the benefits of being a licensed practical nurse is the broad spectrum of career paths available to them.  Sometimes deciding which career path to take can be daunting, but for many LPN’s the opportunity to explore new paths is encouraging and exciting as they navigate through their career in healthcare.  Listed below are a few of the career paths available for licensed practical nurses:

  • Physicians’ offices
  • Communy health clinics
  • Public schools
  • Dentists' offices
  • Mental health facilities
  • Residential care
  • Traveling nurse

Licensed practical nurses can also be found assisting RN's and physicians in maternity wards, emergency rooms and in surgery.   There is also the option to advance their career to registered nursing, or obtain bachelors or master’s degrees in nursing to pursue leadership or educational careers.

As the healthcare industry continues to adapt to the current and projected nursing shortage and new technology, licensed practical nurses are seeing their roles changing, growing and adapting to help meet patient care needs.
