No Prerequisites Required
Are you dreaming of becoming a Registered Nurse, but worried about the hurdles of prerequisite courses? Look no further! Sumner College offers a unique and accessible path to your nursing career through our Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. Here’s what sets our program apart:
No Prerequisite Courses Required
Our BSN program is the only one in Oregon and Washington State that doesn’t demand prerequisite coursework before applying. We’ve revolutionized nursing education by embedding traditional prerequisites within our 12-term program. This means you can jump-start your journey to becoming a registered nurse in less than 3 years.
Credit Transfer Opportunities
Have you already completed college-level coursework at another institution? You can transfer up to 25% of your credits to our program, reducing your tuition costs on your path to a BSN degree.
Hands-On Learning: Our program offers a well-rounded blend of didactic, skills labs, and clinical experiences, ensuring a practical, hands-on approach to learning.
Hybrid Delivery Format: We understand that many of our students have busy lives with work and personal commitments. Our hybrid format allows you to strike a balance between these responsibilities by offering courses delivered on campus, online, and at assigned clinical partner sites. By offering a blend of online and in-person components, you can minimize the time and effort spent commuting to campus, allowing you to make the most of your study time and maintain a better work-life-school balance.
Accreditation You Can Trust
Our program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), ensuring the highest standards of nursing education are met. Additionally, the program is approved by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN), and holds institutional accreditation from the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
Exceptional Retention Rate
We take pride in our remarkable 97.5% retention rate for our nursing programs. This reflects our unwavering commitment to helping our students succeed, from the moment you step through our doors to the day you graduate as a registered nurse. (ABHES 2022-2023 Annual Reporting Data)
Year-Round Opportunities: With rolling enrollment, you’re not constrained by the traditional academic calendar. You can apply and start your journey toward a BSN degree in the fall, winter, spring, or summer—whenever it suits you best. This means you don’t have to wait for an annual admission cycle to begin your studies.
Lucrative Career Prospects
Oregon boasts one of the highest average registered nurse salaries in the nation, with an impressive figure of $98,630 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Moreover, the field of Registered Nursing is predicted to grow by 15.2% over the next decade, making it one of the fastest-growing professions.
Admissions Process
At Sumner College, we care about more than just your GPA. Our admission process considers a combination of factors, including TEAS exam scores, a panel interview, and essays that allow you to share your unique story.

CCNE is a recognized accrediting body for nursing programs, and its accreditation signifies that Sumner College’s BSN program meets or exceeds established standards.
Oregon State Board of Nursing: Approval by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) is vital for nursing programs in the state, ensuring alignment with state-specific nursing education requirements.

This accreditation assures students of the college’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare education.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and Practical Nursing program (PN) are approved by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN). Graduates from these programs are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) in both Oregon and Washington.
However, it’s essential for students planning to practice nursing outside of Oregon and Washington to be aware that licensure requirements vary by state. If you intend to sit for the NCLEX and seek licensure in a state other than Oregon or Washington, it’s advisable to directly contact the board of nursing in that specific state. Each state’s board of nursing sets its own criteria and requirements for licensure, which can include additional examinations, background checks, or educational prerequisites.
Understanding the licensure requirements in the state where you plan to practice is crucial to ensure a smooth transition and compliance with that state’s regulations.
