Clinical Coordinator; Nursing Programs  

Position: Clinical Coordinator; Nursing Programs  

Supervisor: Program Director; Nursing Programs

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree and no less than 2 years of nursing experience


The Clinical Coordinator is responsible acquiring and maintaining clinical sites for clinical and preceptorship experiences. The clinical coordinator works in cooperation with the program director, faculty, preceptors, and coordinators to prepare, place, monitor, supervise and evaluate students participating in their clinical and preceptorship experiences. This coordinator will identify, evaluate, contract with, and visit clinical sites on an ongoing basis.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Locating and evaluating new potential clinical sites
  • Meeting with students preparing to start the preceptorship process, to ensure that he/she is properly prepared, and that all paperwork is in order
  • Properly responding to any issues that arise while the student is completing his/her preceptorship
  • Creating and fostering an atmosphere that is conducive to a high level of learning and student retention
  • Manages affiliation agreements for every active site
  • Performs structured orientations for all students entering their preceptorship
  • Works with sites in a cooperative effort to provide smooth and effective experiences for students.
  • Maintains weekly communication with site supervisors
  • Make site visits as necessary
  • Provides instruction and advising to students in accordance with policies and procedures of the site and of the college
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating all paperwork related to preceptorships as needed
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other departments
  • Responsible for attending faculty meetings
  • Travel to clinical and preceptor sites is required, both in the area and outside of the area, if  necessary

Required Skills:

·        Good communication skills and detail oriented

·        Ability to interpret and explain preceptorship policies and procedures

·        Computer skills – software & keyboarding required

·        Ability to handle multiple tasks

·        Customer service skills

·        Ability to display positive and professional attitude to students, staff, sites and faculty

Required/Desired Education, Experience, and Necessary Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate challenging material effectively, creatively, and with enthusiasm
  • Ability to engage students in active learning and critical thinking
  • Knowledge of academic culture, policies, and procedures
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Word
  • Proven ability to work with diverse racial, ethnic, gender groups



  •  Support the delivery of the College mission and vision
  • Ensuring compliance with academic and regulatory requirements
  • Adheres to practical nursing faculty policies
  • Continued professional development in filed in which assigned to teach
  • Serving as a role model to other faculty and students

Registered Nursing and Practical Nursing Instructors 

Sumner College has been changing lives in the Portland area for over 40 years! The college has immediate openings for one FT and one PT Instructor for our Registered Nursing and Practical Nursing Programs.

The college has two campuses in the Portland area. One is located at Cascade Station near the airport, and our new Parkway Campus is located off I-5 and Carman Drive in Portland. The FT position is Monday through Friday and PT positions range from 1 day a week to 3 days a week. Clinical rotations are in the Portland metro area and/or Vancouver.

BSN preferred; 

Unencumbered OR or WA nursing license;

Teaching experience preferred OR clinical preceptorship experience.
