Florence decided to pursue her education at Sumner College because it offered the most flexibility. The accelerated program and class schedule worked perfectly for her.
Before she immigrated to the US, Florence worked as a Caregiver in Africa for abandoned, HIV-infected and affected babies. After arriving in the US, Florence decided to continue her caregiving role and went to CNA school. Prior to enrolling at Sumner, she was working as a Certified Nursing Assistant in a nursing home.
Florence’s time at Sumner College has been challenging. “Being a busy working mom of three kids and going back to school was not an easy task.” However, she knows she made the right choice, saying, “Sumner College was the best thing that ever happened to me!”
Florence is excited about her new career and is looking forward to climbing the nursing ladder. She is planning to gain experience before someday becoming a Nurse Educator, helping new students to follow in her footsteps. “I appreciate all of the Sumner College staff for helping me realize my dream of becoming a nurse.” Florence is employed at Fairfax Behavioral Health as a licensed practical nurse.
