New You | New Career | The Patient Care Technician Degree Program

The Patient Care Technician program at Sumner College is a 7.5 month program designed to provide students with the academic preparation and skills necessary to assure patients with chronic kidney disease receive safe and effective dialysis. Students will learn how to provide high-quality care for patients in a professional manner, and have the opportunity to provide direct patient care in a clinical setting. 

Patient Care Technicians (PCT’s) work in many different areas in healthcare including dialysis centers, hospitals, clinics, and in private home care. Patient Care Technicians work under the guidance of registered nurses and physicians. 

Our patient care technician program is authorized by the Office of Degree Authorization (ODA) and is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).

It is our responsibility to provide our students with the knowledge, skills, and ability needed to become successful in their chosen field. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be prepared to sit for the national certification exam.


On Campus: Monday – Thursday: 11:00AM – 4:00 PM

Clinical hours off campus during terms 2 & 3 can vary on a Monday – Friday schedule based on the needs of the clinical facilities.
